A local man was arrested for failing to obey a police order to undergo breathalyser and blood alcohol tests last Sunday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Friday.

The rider surnamed Vong is in his forties.

According to the spokesperson, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report from a resident on February 14 that a man riding a scooter crashed and damaged three railings in Avenida da Amizade.

The rider was taken to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for treatment. PSP officers noticed that Vong reeked of alcohol and decided to conduct a breathalyser test on him. However, Vong just put his mouth close to the device but failed to exhale.

Vong admitted to drinking but refused to take the breathalyser test as well as a blood alcohol test, and kept asking for water. The officers warned him that he was facing criminal charges if he failed to obey their order.

The spokesperson said that a doctor later diagnosed Vong with acute alcohol intoxication. Besides, Vong sustained a fracture on his right knee in the accident and needed to be hospitalised.

Vong has meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of failing to obey a police order, according to the spokesperson.
