Four local unions yesterday handed in petitions against a recent suggestion by indirectly-elected lawmaker Cheang Chi Keong that civil society should consider the possibility of setting up a ratio for non-locals to be hired as casino dealers (croupiers).

The groups are the Macau Gaming Industry Frontline Workers (FMG), New Macau Gaming Workers’ Rights Union, People Power, and Workers’ Self-Help Union.

Activists from the People Power group including its high-profile Vice-Chairman Cheong Weng Fat handed their petition, addressed to Cheang, to an official of the Legislative Assembly. Cheang is a senior staff member of the local branch of Bank of China (BOC).
