An exhibition of artwork by teachers and pupils from Colégio Diocesano de São José 6 (CDSJ6), entitled “Pass on liberal arts • being independent and helping others” and intended to mark the Catholic school’s 90th anniversary, is on display at the gallery of the Education Resources Centre of the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) this week.
According to a statement provided by the school, the event is sponsored by the bureau and organised by the school as part of a string of activities to celebrate the diamond and emerald anniversary.
The exhibition displays more than 200 works by teachers and pupils including different types of paintings, ceramics and photographic art.
Adhering to the spirit of St. Joseph’s service to others and the school’s mission, the theme of the exhibition is “Pass on liberal arts • being independent and helping others”, with the aim of conveying selfless dedication of art knowledge for teachers to share it with their pupils, according to the statement.
According to Wikipedia, Joseph is a figure in the canonical gospels who was married to Mary, mother of Jesus, and was the legal father of Jesus. Joseph is venerated as Saint Joseph in the Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, Anglicanism, and Lutheranism. In Catholic traditions, Joseph is regarded as the patron saint of workers and is associated with various feast days. The month of March is dedicated to Saint Joseph. Pope Pius IX declared him to be both the patron and the protector of the Catholic Church, in addition to his patronages of the sick and of a happy death, due to the belief that he died in the presence of Jesus and Mary. Joseph has become patron of various dioceses and places.
The school’s statement points out that the exhibition is the result of many months of preparations for teachers and pupils from different groups of the school to take on various duties and jointly display the learning achievements of each group.
The exhibition runs until Saturday in the ground-floor Zizhan Gallery of the DSEDJ’s Education Resources Centre at 926 Avenida da Praia Grande. It opens daily from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. Admission is free.
As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, visitors need to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code when entering the gallery.
