The government’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said yesterday that it has noticed that in recent days some business operators have let their guard down in implementing the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures for patrons such as checking their Macau Health Code and their temperature, warning them to always strictly carry out all the officially required COVID-19 measures.

“Although the COVID-19 situation is stable in Macau where no [local COVID-19] case has been reported for a long time, the COVID-19 pandemic is still critical and [new] local cases are still being constantly reported in neighbouring regions, because of which Macau is still facing a risk of recording new imported COVID-19 cases and new local cases resulting from new imported cases,” a statement by the centre said.

“Consequently, it is necessary for the various COVID-19 prevention measures to be strictly implemented [across the city],” the statement said.

“In recent days some operators have let their guard down in implementing COVID-19 prevention measures by failing to strictly check patrons’ Macau Health Code and their temperatures,” the statement said.

In the statement, the centre urged the city’s various premises such as hotels, shopping centres, public administration premises, medical institutions, and restaurants (especially those capable of accommodating at least 400 people) to strictly implement all the officially required COVID-19 prevention measures, such as checking patrons’ Macau Health Code and their temperatures, apart from regular cleaning and disinfection.

The statement reaffirmed that all those with a yellow or red Macau Health Code shall be barred from entering certain premises.

A green Macau Health Code is required for people to enter public administration offices, casinos, hotels and other private businesses .

Yesterday’s statement also said that medical institutions can only allow those with a yellow or red Macau Health Code to enter, “provided that special arrangements can be imposed on them”.

The statement also urged residents to stick to COVID-19 prevention measures such as properly wearing a facemask, regularly washing their hands and practising social distancing.
