A local man was arrested on Monday for stealing the rear view mirror of a scooter on the previous day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old jobless suspect is surnamed Mok.

According to Cheong, a man reported to the police on Sunday that the rear view mirror of his scooter had gone missing. He told the police that he parked his scooter near his workplace in Rua do Conselheiro Borja in Ilha Verde. When he returned to his scooter in the evening, he discovered that the right rear view mirror had vanished. The victim scrutinised CCTV footage outside his workplace area and discovered that someone stopped a car near his scooter. Afterwards, that person removed the rear view mirror with a tool and drove away. The victim reported the case to the police.

According to Cheong, PSP officers identified the suspect based on the car’s licence number and told Mok to report to a police station to assist in the investigation on Monday. Mok told the police he had been “dissatisfied” that the scooter had prevented him from parking his car in the area. He then removed the mirror and threw it away to “vent his anger.”

Mok has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Cheong.
