In order to help its staff keep abreast of the nation’s development, MGM recently held a “sharing session” about the nation’s annual “Two Sessions” – the annual sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing early this month.
The sharing session about the “Two Sessions” was held at MGM COTAI and attended by several NPC deputies and CPPCC National Committee members from Macau, the Hong Kong-listed gaming, hospitality and entertainment company said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the 4th session of the 13th National People’s Conference (NPC) and the 4th session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), commonly known as “Two Sessions”, concluded successfully earlier this month.
The statement pointed out that MGM invited NPC deputy José Chui Sai Peng, who is a member of the local legislature; NPC deputy and Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) President Ho Sut Heng; CPPCC National Committee member and Macau Women’s General Association President Tina Ho Teng Iat; and Macau Development Strategy Research Centre Vice President Chan Chi Fong to address the sharing session.
The statement said that the four speakers highlighted the major policies set out at the “Two Sessions” and how the Central People’s Government Work Report would benefit Macau’s economy and people’s livelihoods.
According to the statement, 300 MGM staff attended the sharing session.
The statement said that according to Chui, this month’s “Two Sessions” resulted in new concepts for advancing Macau’s development, such as in the areas of the research, development and manufacturing of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the provision of financial services tailor-made for Macau, and the launch of high-tech industries.
Chui urged MGM employees to proactively explore Macau’s development paths and grasp every opportunity.
Meanwhile, Co-chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited Pansy Ho Chiu-king told the sharing session that “MGM is honoured to have NPC deputies and CPPCC [National Committee] members to explain our nation’s latest developments and pass on the spirit of the ‘Two Sessions’ to our team members for the second year in a row. Our nation has embarked on a new journey to reach the second centennial goal* which coincides with the momentous post-pandemic economic recovery. MGM will join hands with team members to align with the nation’s development directions, and we pledge to contribute by making the best of our resources. We will continue to help Macau strengthen its positions as a world centre of tourism and leisure and proactively contribute to the integration of the Greater Bay Area cities.”
*What are the nation’s 2 centennial goals?
According to Xinhua, this year, to celebrate the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) centenary, the goal is to “build a moderately prosperous society in all respects”. This essentially means making sure that the nation’s development improves the lives of all its people, particularly those who are below or near the country’s poverty line.
By 2049, the centenary of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the goal is to “build a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced and harmonious”. This is the reason why much of the reform being pushed in recent years aims to prevent and control major risks, alleviate poverty, curb pollution, and deepen supply-side structural reform to push forward sustained and healthy economic and social development, Xinhua said.
