A man was arrested on Thursday for touching a non-local female pupil’s buttocks on a bus that morning, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The local suspect surnamed Tam, who is in his thirties, told the police that he is a customer service staff member.
According to Lai, a minor female pupil reported to the police on Thursday evening that she had been sexually harassed by a man when she was on a bus on her way to school that morning. She told the police that the bus was very crowded and she felt someone standing behind her touch her buttocks. When the bus stopped in Praça de Ferreira do Amaral, the man got off the bus and ran away. After discussing the incident with her teacher, the victim decided to report the case to the police in the evening.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Tam and told him to present himself at a police station. Tam told the police that as the bus was very crowded he was tempted to put his hand under the victim’s clothing to touch her buttocks.
Lai did not disclose the victim’s age, merely saying that she is a minor.
Tam has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Lai.
