A man and a woman from the mainland were arrested this week for pimping and prostitution respectively in a hotel in Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança in Cotai, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The suspects are a man surnamed Hu in his thirties and a woman surnamed Zhong in her twenties. Both are holding an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau, colloquially known as Two-way Permits.
According to Lai, an employee of the hotel reported to the Public Security Police (PSP) on Tuesday that a man and a woman were offering commercial sex to clients at the hotel. PSP officers arrived at the hotel and arrested Hu and Zhong in the lobby. Under questioning, Zhong told the police she knew from friends in her hometown that she could earn a living as a prostitute in Macau.
Zhong arrived in Macau this month where Hu and another man, who was still on the run at the time of the press conference, arranged her accommodation and her clients as well as escorting her to and from the trysts.
The income from the sex service was shared between the prostitute, Hu and the other man. Lai said that on Tuesday Zhong charged her first client of the day 1,500 patacas for the service.
The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Hu faces an exploitation of prostitution charge while Zhong faces a prostitution charge, according to Lai.
Visitors are forbidden to engage in gainful employment – such as through prostitution – during their stay here.
