A painting exhibition titled “Healing Colours” by local artist Ieong Man Hin (楊文軒) is being held at the Art For All Society (AFA) gallery, organised by AFA and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).

“Healing Colours” is part of the Young Artists Exhibitions Series I: “Naturescape”.

Ieong was born in Macau in 1993 and his main creative medium is mineral pigments. He is a director in council of the Art For All Society (AFA). He obtained a bachelor’s dual degree from Taiwan’s Tunghai University in 2017 in Sociology and Fine Arts, and a master’s degree in Fine Arts in 2020. Before studying in Taiwan, Ieong had studied painting with a local artist Lai Ying (黎鷹) for about five years.

According to a statement on the AFA website, exhibition curator Tong Chong points out that the exhibition is divided into four series which were created by Ieong in different periods. When he started his master’s degree course, Ieong had doubts about his artistic path, but “he is committed to expressing the coexistence of natural creatures and man-made objects,” Tong underlines.

Ieong told The Macau Post Daily at the gallery last week that some of his recent paintings depict artificial landscapes which were created through objects such as flower vases, water bottles or plants which intentionally or “artificially” were made to heal our body, mind or soul.

He said he was of the opinion that somehow this kind of man-made landscapes may have a negative impact or contradictions, possibly leading people to an artificial state of things rather than looking into our true selves.

The exhibition runs until April 30 at AFA Macau in the 1st floor gallery of Tak Chun Macau Art Garden at 265 Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues. It is open daily (except Sundays and public holidays) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

As part of the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, all visitors entering the gallery need to wear a facemask.
