The government has announced that its Giant Panda Pavilion in Seac Pai Van Park in Coloane will no longer charge an admission fee from Saturday next week, May Day.
Currently, people need to pay an admission fee of 10 patacas for entry into the Giant Panda Pavilion, except for those aged 12 or below and those aged 65 or over for whom admission is free.
Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon, who is also the spokesman for the government’s top advisory Executive Council, made the announcement during a press conference at Government Headquarters on Monday.
Cheong also announced that the government will abolish its Panda Fund (FP) – which is currently tasked with providing a subsidy for educational and research projects concerning the preservation of giant pandas – on May 1, when the fund’s functions will be transferred to the Macau Foundation (FM) and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM).
Cheong said that the government has finished drafting an administrative regulation to abolish its Panda Fund which will take effect on May 1, according to which the Macau Foundation will be tasked with providing a subsidy for research projects on giant pandas, while the Municipal Affairs Bureau will be tasked with providing a subsidy for educational projects on giant pandas and other projects facilitating the preservation of giant pandas.
