Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) Director Lau Wai Meng told reporters yesterday that the government’s telecommunication bill is still being discussed by the Executive Council (ExCo).

The council is the government’s top advisory body.

Lau made the remarks during a press conference about three new stamp releases at the bureau’s headquarters.

According to Lau, the bill is still being discussed, therefore it hasn’t reached the Legislative Assembly yet. Lau added that she believed the bill would not be passed by the legislature during the current legislative term. She pointed out that the government’s public telecommunication contract with CTM will expire by the end of the year, adding that CTM suggested a few “feasible options” such as launching a separate 5G licencing scheme before lawmakers pass the bill. She pointed out that her bureau might consider temporarily renewing the agreement with CTM but it had yet to make its final decision.

During yesterday’s press conference, Lau said her bureau would launch three new stamp series – Macau Library II tomorrow, the Procession of Our Lady of Fátima on May 13 and Buddha’s Birthday on May 19.
