The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a male mainlander on Saturday for selling drugs in Macau, PJ spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.
Choi identified the suspect as a 36-year-old surnamed Lin.
Based on their exchange of intelligence with the mainland police, the Judiciary Police were looking for a mainlander selling drugs to clients at night entertainment venues and local casinos, Choi said.
According to Choi, PJ officers identified Lin as the suspected dealer and took action on Saturday afternoon near a residential building in Avenida do Nordeste in Areia Preta district. The officers who put Lin under surveillance saw him wandering around the outside of the building.
According to Choi, the officers intercepted Lin and took him to the flat in the building where he was staying where they seized a number of packets of Happy Powder, some of which was mixed with methamphetamine (also known as ice) and ecstasy pills, weighing a total of 198.2 grammes with an estimated street price of 200,000 patacas.
Under questioning by the police, Lin admitted selling drugs in Macau. Lin told the police that he had been hired by a mainland gang for HK$10,000 a month to sell drugs in Macau to clients at night entertainment venues and casinos, Choi said.
Lin had been selling drugs in Macau for two months, during which time senior gang members gave him instructions where and when to sell the drugs, Choi said.
Choi said that the Judiciary Police were continuing their investigation to trace the source of the drugs.
2 cases in 1 week
Choi noted that this case was the second case of its kind busted by PJ officers in one week.
Two men and a woman were arrested on Wednesday last week for their alleged selling of drugs in Macau, when PJ officers seized 31 packets of ketamine weighing 37.7 grammes and seven packets of Happy Powder weighing 8.35 grammes with an estimated street price of 50,000 patacas.
Choi said that the Judiciary Police would maintain close exchanges of intelligence with their mainland counterparts with the aim of jointly combating drug trafficking activities.
Lin has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further questioning, facing drug trafficking charges.
