A local man touched the breast of a woman at a bus stop in Patane district last week because of he found her figure “attractive”, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.
The spokesperson identified the suspect as a 51-year-old surnamed Lao who told the police that he is unemployed.
According to the spokesperson, the woman, who is a non-resident worker, was waiting for her bus at a bus stop in Rua da Ribeira do Patane last Monday night, when a man – Lao – walking past suddenly touched her breast.
The woman in her twenties was scared so initially she was unable to react to the man’s sudden touching of her breast, the spokesperson said, adding that after “recovering from a fear”, the woman saw the man had meanwhile walked away. She reported the case to the police.
After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, PSP officers identified Lao as the suspect, who was arrested in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda on Thursday afternoon, the spokesperson said.
Under questioning by the police, Lao admitted to touching the woman’s breast. Lao told the police that when he was walking past the bus stop, he was attracted by the woman’s figure as he was intoxicated so he became sexually aroused and then touched her breast, the spokesperson said.
Lao has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further questioning, facing a sexual harassment charge.
