Labour Affairs Bureau’s (DSAL) Employment Department Chief Lei Lai Keng said yesterday that this year’s Youth Career Expo will mainly target young people who have just graduated or have little work experience, and that the salaries offered by companies this year were expected to remain similar to last year’s, with the salaries for a few positions set to rise a bit.

Lei did not elaborate on the salaries set to be offered young jobseekers during the two-day fair later this week.

Lei made the remarks on the sidelines of a press conference co-hosted by the Labour Affairs Bureau, Association of Chinese Students of Macau (AECM) and Macau New Chinese Youth Association (MNCYA) about their Youth Career Expo, at the bureau in Areia Preta district yesterday.

Lei said that more than 1,700 job vacancies were offered at the fair and more than 600 people visited the fair to find a job last year, with more than 40 people eventually being offered jobs in banks and telecom companies.

Lei said that “successful [job] matching involves a variety of circumstances, and therefore, interview workshops will also be organised for young people this year.”

Lei pointed out that 1,500 participants have registered for the expo so far, and she called on young people to take the opportunity to learn about the application of new technologies, job skills demonstrations or attend seminars at the fair, even if not looking for a job right now, so as to enhance their understanding of the latest trends regarding the government’s “1+4” development plan.

According to the 1+4 model, the government will consolidate the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four new key industries, namely 1) big health, 2) modern finance, 3) high-tech, and 4) conventions and exhibitions as well as culture and sports.

According to the press conference, the two-day expo will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Galaxy International Convention Centre (GICC), offering more than 1,500 jobs in over 50 enterprises, including positions in four main industries, as well as modern finance, high-tech, civil engineering, catering, high-end retail, and social welfare organisations.

The bureau held, a fortnight prior to the job fair, 11 workshops to provide employment training for young job seekers, such as mock job interview workshops, résumé writing skills workshops, and youth entrepreneurship support.

Young job seekers interested in participating in the job fair can access the website: https://www.dsal.gov.mo/zh_tw/standard/youthcareerexpo2024.html to make an appointment, according to the press conference.

Enquiries can be made by calling 2835 8963 during office hours, the statement added.
