The new green promenade project near Kun Iam Statue in Nape is opening for a trial run starting today, a Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) statement said yesterday.
According to the statement, the bureau said it expected a heavy flow of visitors during the initial opening period, therefore it decided to adopt crowd control measures for the children’s playground according to the actual situation. The bureau did not elaborate on the maximum visitor capacity of the playground area.
The statement said that in order to beautify the green promenade around the Kun Iam Statue area, the bureau decided to build a leisure zone between the Macau Science Centre and the statue. The bureau noted that the leisure area covers about 15,000 square metres and includes a walking trail, multifunctional court, gateball court, roller skating rink, and other fitness and leisure facilities for families.
The statement pointed out that the children’s playground area covers about 2,700 square metres, and the activity facilities are divided into several areas for children of different ages, stressing that there are also facilities that parents can enjoy as well.
The statement reminded residents that as some of the facilities are challenging, parents should tag along to guide their children at all times. The bureau also urges residents to pay attention to the on-site notices and use the facilities according to the applicable age range and safety guidelines.
According to the statement, in order to facilitate the novel coronavirus pandemic prevention measures and maintain public order and children’s safety, the bureau will adopt measures to control the number of people in the playground area, and only allow the public to enter the area in batches at different time sessions, or even suspend entry. The statement underlined that the public is advised to pay attention to, and follow the instructions of the on-site staff. Meanwhile, the bureau also urged the public not to rush to the new green promenade in the initial stage of its opening in order to have a better experience after the peak period.
The statement also said that the leisure area includes a walking trail that is around 400 metres long where lockers, vending machines and a café are located along the walk. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic some of the equipment is still being delivered.
The playground, gateball court, roller skating rink and multi-functional court in the Leisure Area are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The other facilities such as the walking trail and the fitness and leisure area for adults are open 24/7.
