The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that while patrolling the northern district yesterday morning, customs officials arrested a local woman who was found to be carrying eight freshly slaughtered chickens.

The case came hard on the heels of the government’s announcement of a temporary ban on the sale of live poultry locally after inspectors discovered the H7-type avian influenza in an environmental sample at Iao Hon Municipal Market on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the suspect had just returned from the mainland when the officials stopped her, adding that the woman would be fined.
