The Macau government’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced in a statement yesterday that from today those who have completed their 14-day hotel quarantine in Macau after arriving from Taiwan are again required to practise seven days of “self-health management”.
The statement said that the Macau government has decided to reimpose its “self-health management” requirement for arrivals from Taiwan due to the latest development of Taiwan’s COVID-19 epidemic situation.
The Macau government lifted its then 14-day “self-health management” for arrivals from Taiwan two months ago. Since then, those who had completed their 14-day quarantine and medical observation at one of the local government’s “quarantine hotels” after arriving in Macau from Taiwan no longer had to practise “self-health management” until yesterday.
Now, under the new measure, which took effect at 00:00 today, those who have been to Taiwan within 14 days prior to their entry into Macau must undergo 14 days of quarantine and medical observation at one of the government’s “quarantine hotels” upon their arrival here, after which they are required to practise seven days of “self-health management”.
Yesterday’s statement also noted that the Macau Health Code colour of those undergoing “self-health management” will be yellow. The statement also reaffirmed that all those with a yellow or red Macau Health Code are barred from entering certain premises, such as hotels, shopping centres, public administration premises, border checkpoint buildings, medical institutions, and restaurants (especially those capable of seating 400 or more).
Yesterday’s statement also noted that medical institutions can only allow those with a yellow or red Macau Health Code to enter their premises “provided that special arrangements can be imposed on them”.
In addition, yesterday’s statement also announced that from today those arriving in Macau from Taiwan must present a nucleic acid test (NAT) certificate confirming that they have tested negative for COVID-19 within the past 72 hours when boarding a Macau-bound plane, a change from the seven-day-validity requirement which had been in force until yesterday.
Those who have been to Hong Kong within the 14 days prior to their entry into Macau must undergo 14 days of hotel quarantine upon their arrival here. The Macau government lifted its then seven-day “self-health management” for arrivals from Hong Kong late last month, meaning that since then those who have completed their 14-day hotel quarantine in Macau after arriving from Hong Kong no longer need to practise “self-health management”.
Those arriving in Macau from Hong Kong must present a nucleic acid test (NAT) certificate confirming that they have tested negative for COVID-19 within the past 24 hours.
As of yesterday, Taiwan’s COVID-19 tally stood at 1,256 including 12 deaths, according to worldometers.info. The island has a population of 23.8 million.
