The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) in conjunction with gaming operator MGM hosted the 6th annual Tourism Education Student Summit event (Ted Summit-2021) yesterday, and for the first time, students from the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) mainland cities joined the event and shared their research with local students, an IFTM statement said yesterday.

The statement said that the full-day event was an opportunity for outstanding students from the GBA to engage with the industry in a discussion about the future development of tourism and hospitality in Macau and the GBA. The statement underlined that IFTM regards the training of young researchers as a strategic feature of its programmes, adding that the skills required in the research process, such as critical thinking, problem identification and solution, analysis and deduction, equip new graduates with qualities that are essential for the continuous growth of the tourism sector.

The statement said that two keynote speakers, Yang Jingjing, a scholar from the mainland, and MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes delivered speeches about tourism research and how to “navigate” the tourism industry amidst the global COVID-19 crisis.
