The Transport Bureau (DSAT) said in a statement yesterday that three public carparks have installed a rechargeable battery exchange cabinet each for electric motorcycles.

According to the statement, in order to implement the government’s plan to promote electric vehicles, three public carparks – Auto-Silo do Edifício Mong Sin, Auto-Silo do Edifício Mong In and Nam Van carpark – are offering brand-specific charged batteries for e-motorbikes. The statement pointed out that the aim is to make it more convenient for riders to exchange their motorbike batteries.

The statement stressed that the cabinet only provides charged batteries, and that it cannot charge the motorcycles. The statement said that posters are displayed on the cabinets that explain how to use the cabinets. The bureau said that it would pay close attention to their usage in order to consider optimising other equipment for other electronic vehicles.

According to the DSAT website, there were 180 registered electronic motorcycles at the end of last year.
