CTT stamp collection ‘Chapas Sínicas’ in 2018 wins 2021 German Design Award

The Macau Post and Telecommunication Bureau’s (CTT) stamp collection “Chapas Sínicas” designed by Joaquim Cheong Kuok Wai in 2018 has recently won the 2021 German Design Award –Excellent Communications Design Official Documents Category Special Award, a CTT statement said yesterday.

According to the statement, the collection was launched on July 6, 2018 to commemorate the successful listing of “Chapas Sínicas” on the UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register in 2017 and the Memory of the World Register for Asia-Pacific in 2016. The statement underlined that the award from Germany is not only an international recognition of Macau’s postal design, but also a great incentive and promotion of Macau history and culture through stamps.

“Chapas Sínicas” (“Chinese Sheets”) are official records from during the Qing Dynasty about Macau.

According to UNESCO’s website, the Memory of the World Register lists documentary heritage which has been recommended by the UNESCO International Advisory Committee and endorsed by the director-general of UNESCO.

UNESCO established the Memory of the World Programme in 1992.

New stamp launch

The bureau will launch a new stamp collection themed “Macau typical old shops” tomorrow. The bureau said in a separate statement yesterday that the stamps have been designed by Lai Ieng, and the designs have been inspired by 12 typical old shops, including Ng Teng Kei bakery, Fong Kei bakery, Mok Yi Kei desserts, and Seng Kei congee shop.

The statement noted that the new stamps will be on sale starting tomorrow at the Macau General Post Office at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Communications Museum from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and at the Rua do Campo Post Office from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The statement noted that the price of the stamps ranges from 17 patacas to 24 patacas.

‘Draw my story of stamps’ contest

Another CTT statement yesterday said that the Communications Museum will organise the 2021 Draw My Story of Stamps Contest for children, young people and the general public. The statement said that in order to encourage and discover more artists, the museum has decided to invite the general public to participate in cultural creative arts and design by using stamps or souvenir sheets issued by Macau to draw a new illustrative work.

The statement underlined that the deadline of the submissions by hand or by mail is on August 13 at 5:30 p.m. For details on regulations and the registration form, visit the Communication Museum website.
