Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was hoisted by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) at 4:30 p.m. today.
According to an SMG statement, "the present signal may be replaced by Signal No. 3 according to the situation at night."
At 4 p.m., the tropical cyclone was located about 510 km south of Macau and moving towards Hainan province.
The observatory also issued a blue storm surge warning at 4:30 p.m. It forecast that flooding will occur in low-lying areas between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. tomorrow, with a maximum flood level of below 0.50 metre. According to the statement, there is a "medium" chance that Signal No. 3 will be hoisted between tonight and early morning tomorrow.
