A jobless local teen was arrested last Thursday for using a smartphone to secretly take upskirts of a woman at Patane Library earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old suspect is surnamed Leong. The victim is a local woman in her thirties, Cheong said.

According to Cheong, a security guard at the library reported to the Public Security Police last Thursday that a woman had been sexually harassed in the library that afternoon. PSP officers arrived at the scene to investigate. The victim told the police that she discovered a man wandering behind her chair while she was reading in the afternoon. Suddenly she felt that something had touched her thigh and she saw the man looking nervous and rushing away. She suspected that the man had secretly taken upskirts of her with his smartphone. She told the security guard right away about her suspicion. The guard intercepted the man and then called the police to report the case.

Under questioning, Leong admitted that he took upskirts of the victim because of her attractive appearance. He accidentally touched the victim’s thigh during the sneak shots. He told the police that he had meanwhile deleted the four photos of the victim on his smartphone.

Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Cheong.
