The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced in a statement late last night that a 29-year-old local man who received his first Sinopharm inactivated jab last week has been diagnosed with thrombocytopenia.
According to Wikipedia, thrombocytopenia is a condition characterised by abnormally low levels of platelets, also known as thrombocytes, in the blood.
According to the statement, the man received his COVID-19 jab at a public health centre on Wednesday last week. On Friday, the man came down with scattered petechiae on the lips and upper and lower limbs.
Petechiae are small spots caused by bleeding underneath the skin.
The man went to the Inner Harbour Health Centre – which is situated near the Ponte 16 casino-hotel – for medical treatment yesterday morning, from where he was transferred to the emergency department of the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, where the doctor confirmed that the man suffered a reduction in platelets, and therefore was diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, the statement said.
The statement said that the man, who has been hospitalised, is in a stable condition.
The case, which has been classified as a serious post-vaccination adverse event, will be transferred to the Health Bureau’s (SSM) special working group tasked with assessing serious adverse events after COVID-19 vaccinations.
