An art exhibition entitled “A Century of Glory” (光輝百年 – 陶塑詩詞書法展), which celebrates the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is being held at the Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) Gallery.
The CPC was founded in July 1921.
The event is co-organised by the Macau Wisdom Humanities Encouragement Political Association (澳門智慧人文勵政會) and the Greater Bay Area Ceramic Art Collection and Exchange Association (大灣區陶瓷藝術收藏交流協會) in conjunction with the foundation set up by local Portuguese lawyer Rui Cunha.
The exhibition showcases 31 pieces of ceramic sculptures and calligraphy by various artists, to celebrate “this historic moment”, according to an article from the gallery’s website.
The article underlines that some of the large-scale ceramic sculptures were specially created for the exhibition by two arts and crafts masters from Guangdong – Huang Zhuonan (黃焯南) and Chen Peijin (陳沛津).
“These artworks are magnificent, rich in composition, vivid and lively, using techniques to express innovation in tradition and exquisiteness in novelty,” according to the article.
The exhibition combines three artistic modalities: ceramics, poetry and calligraphy.
Ng Choi Kun (吳在權), a well-known local calligrapher and president of the Macau Wisdom Humanities Encouragement Political Association, uses different calligraphy styles to write poems based on themes specially composed by local writers for the ceramic sculpture exhibits. The poems accompany the exhibits, with inscriptions on the sculptures or handwritten separately, according to the article.
The message is festive – Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the development of the motherland has made great achievements that have attracted worldwide attention, and people from all ethnic groups in the country have united and made great strides towards a better and happier life. According to the co-organisers, this is also a tribute that aims to “extol the core social values of national patriotism and the love for Macau”, the article points out.
The exhibition is being held until Saturday at the Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery at 749 Avenida da Praia Grande daily until Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturday it opens from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
As part of the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, all visitors are required to wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present their digital health code.
