Global COVID-19 death toll tops 4 million: report

The world’s COVID-19 death toll topped four million yesterday, the US-based real-time statistics reference website worldometers.info reported.

According to the website, the novel coronavirus global death toll stood at 4,004,965 at 3 a.m. today (Macau time), when the world’s total number of reported COVID-19 cases amounted to 185.1 million, which included 169.4 million recovered cases.

Most COVID-19 fatalities were reported in the US (621,378), Brazil (525,229) and India (404,219). According to the website, COVID-19 is affecting 220 countries and territories.

Macau’s COVID-19 tally stands at 55 – with zero deaths. Macau confirmed its first novel coronavirus case on January 22 last year. All the novel coronavirus cases in Macau have been classified by the Health Bureau (SSM) as imported or as “connected to imported cases.”

According to worldometers.info, the global population stands at 7.87 billion.
