A non-resident worker from the Philippines was arrested on Sunday for sexually coercing a Filipina in her bedroom earlier that day, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at a press briefing yesterday.
The 27-year-old suspect surnamed Gumapac told the police that he works as a cleaner. Lou said the victim rented a flat in the city centre in 2017 and later sublet other rooms in the flat to her hometown friends. Gumapac moved into one of the rooms in January.
According to Lou, the Public Security Police (PSP) transferred a sexual coercion case to the Judiciary Police on Sunday morning – a Filipino allegedly touched a 26-year-old Filipina’s breasts and private parts in her bedroom. According to information gathered by the Public Security Police, the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on Sunday when Gumapac returned home after drinking at his friend’s home. He entered the victim’s room and woke her up, saying that he would give her a massage.
The victim immediately told Gumapac to leave her room but he ignored her. Instead he kissed her forcefully and then touched her breasts and private parts. The victim resisted. Soon after she was able to leave her flat and reported the case to the Public Security Police. PSP officers nabbed Gumapac in the flat and transferred him to the Judiciary Police, Lou said.
Under questioning, Gumapac denied committing the crime and claimed that he was resting in his bedroom that night. However, he later admitted that he entered the victim’s bedroom and sexually coerced her. PJ officers formally arrested Gumapac on Sunday afternoon, according to Lou.
Gumapac was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Monday, facing a sexual coercion charge, according to Lou.
