2 patients from Philippines raise Macau's COVID-19 cases to 58

Two local Philippine residents have been confirmed as Macau's latest COVID-19 patients, raising the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Macau to 58, the Novel Coronavirus and Coordination Centre has announced. 

According to a statement by the centre yesterday evening, the two patients arrived in Macau from the Philippines yesterday. A nucleic acid test (NAT) upon arrival at the local airport confirmed their COVID-19 infections. Both have been classified as imported cases, the statement. 

The patients are a 28-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son. Both a Macau residents and both said they had not been diagnosed with the disease before. The woman was vaccinated twice against COVID-19, on June 25 and July 23. The statement did not reveal the brand of vaccination. 

The statement pointed out that both tested negative for COVID-19 in the Philippines on July 20, 21 and 22. 

Both arrived in Macau yesterday on board Philippine Airlines flight PR8532, seat numbers 47A and 47C. 

Meanwhile, the statement also confirmed two relapse cases of COVID-19, a 27-year-old staff member of the Consulate-General of the Philippines in Macau and a one-year-old girl who is the daughter of another staff member of the consulate. 

Both tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. However, as both were diagnosed with the disease in May, they have been classified as relapse cases. The 27-year-old woman was fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, on June 14 and July 12. Both the woman and the baby tested negative for the disease on July 17, 18 and 21. Both arrived in Macau on board Philippine Airlines flight PR8532 yesterday, seat numbers 45C and 44B. 

According to the statement, the four patients have been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for follow-up diagnoses and treatments. The statement described their condition as "normal". 

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22 last year. All of the patients have been classified by the centre as imported or "linked to imported" cases. There have been zero novel coronavirus cases in Macau.

Macau's population stood at 682,500 at the end of the first quarter, according to the latest available official demographics.
