Macau's composite consumer price index (CCPI) for last month fell 0.08 percent year on year, a deflationary deceleration compared to the index's decline of 0.51 percent recorded in May, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

A DSEC statement on Friday attributed the CCPI drop in June to lower charges for package tours and telecommunication services, lower housing rents as well as falling prices of women's clothing and pork; however, the decrease was partially offset by higher charges for eating out, rising prices of gasoline and fruits, higher airfares, along with domestic helpers' increasing wages.

The CCPI for June dipped 0.01 percent month on month. Summer sales of adults’ clothing, coupled with lower hotel room rates and housing rents, pushed down the prices indices of Recreation & Culture, Clothing & Footwear and Housing & Fuels by 0.29 percent, 0.18 percent and 0.13 percent respectively.

For the 12 months ended last month, the average CCPI decreased 0.58 percent from the previous period (July 2019 to June 2020), with notable drop in the price indices of Communication (-10.11 percent) and Recreation & Culture (-9.94 percent).

The average Composite CPI for the second quarter of the year fell 0.41 percent year on year.

The CCPI reflects the impact of price changes on the general households in Macau, according to the DSEC statement.
