Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said in a statement that as of 7 p.m. today a total 593,000 people had taken part in the government's Citywide Nucleic Acid Testing Programme, which began at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the statement, as of 7 p.m. a total 283,000 tests results had been confirmed. All of them were negative.

The centre pointed out that since Tuesday about 102,000 people have opted for self-arranged testing outside the government's Citywide Nucleic Acid Testing Programme. Altogether, as of 7 p.m.today the number of people tested for COVID-19 added up to around 695,000, according to statement.

The Citywide Nucleic Acid Testing Programme, which has been conducted around the clock, ends at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

According to the latest available demographics, Macau's population stood at 682,500 at the end of March.

The government launched the mass testing drive, Macau's first, after a Delta variant local family cluster had been confirmed early this week. The Health Bureau said today that the four-member family - two children and their parents - are in stable condition, undergoing treatment at an isolation facility.

At the start of the mass testing programme the government had urged "everyone" in Macau to be tested for COVID-19.
