Macau's population remained unchanged at 682,500 at the end of the second quarter, the same as at the end of the first quarter of this year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today.
However, Macau's population fell 0.4 percent year on year. At the end of the second quarter of 2020, Macau's population stood at 685,400.
At the end of June, females accounted for 53.3 percent of the population.
Macau's population figure comprises residents and non-resident workers.
A total of 1,299 live births were delivered in the second quarter, an increase of 126 quarter to quarter. The sex ratio at birth stood at 110.9, i.e. 110.9 male babies per 100 female ones.
Mortality dropped by 35 quarter to quarter to 554 in the second quarter. Cancer was the main underlying cause of death, accounting for 38 percent of the total.
The number of non-resident workers (NRWs) fell by 852 quarter to quarter 172,261. Most NRWs are mainland Chinese, Filipinos, Vietnamese and Nepalese.
A total of 809 marriage registrations were recorded in the second quarter, down by 164 from the previous quarter.
Based on Macau's land area of 33 square kilometres, the special administrative region's population density amounted to 20.681 per square kilometre at the end of June - one of the world's highest.
Since the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in December 1999 the city's land area has risen 38.5 percent, while its population has increased 59.3 percent.
