The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that a “suspicious” speedboat was discovered in the coastal waters off Cheoc Van Beach as it attempted to speed off but Zhuhai and local customs officers were able to stop the vessel and arrest four mainland men.
According to the statement, Zhuhai and local customs officers discovered a speedboat suspected of involvement in illegal activities yesterday morning.
The statement pointed out that four men attempted to get away from Zhuhai’s customs officers and escape to Macau.
When the customs officers from Macau arrived at the scene where they found the speedboat, the four men had already escaped. However, the customs officers were finally able to catch the four suspects near Cheoc Van Beach.
The statement underlined that the customs officers checked the men’s temperature and followed the Health Bureau’s guidelines after arresting them, pointing out that the suspects have been detained for further investigation.
The statement did not elaborate on the illegal activities the speedboat was allegedly involved in and why they four men were attempting to get away from Zhuhai.
