A local man in his sixties was arrested at his home in Taipa on Wednesday for sexually harassing a woman in Avenida Olímpica in Taipa earlier that day, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a press briefing on Friday.
The suspect surnamed Fong told the police that he is a retiree.
According to the spokesperson, the victim, who is in her twenties, reported to the police on Wednesday afternoon that when she was walking alone in Avenida Olímpica in Taipa at about 1 p.m. that day a man walking towards suddenly touched her buttocks with his left hand when he walked past her. He smiled at her and continued on his way. The victim reported the case to the police.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Fong and arrested him later that day at his home in Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita in Taipa. Fong admitted that he touched the woman but denied that he sexually harassed her. He said that the pavement was narrow and his left hand accidentally touched the woman. He looked back at the woman to indicate that he had touched her by mistake but she did not respond so he continued on his way, the spokesperson said.
Fong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to the spokesperson.
