Macau's entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen for business at 00:00 on Wednesday, according to an executive order signed by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng which was gazetted today.

The measure took effect on August 5 after the detection of a Delta variant family cluster. It ordered the closure of cinemas, theatres, indoor entertainment facilities, video arcades, cybercafes, snooker halls, bowling alleys, saunas and massage parlours, beauty parlours, gyms, health clubs, karaoke bars, nightclubs, discos, ballrooms and cabarets, based on the Law on the Control and Treatment of Communicable Diseases.

The government allowed Macau's about three dozen casinos to stay open as they have been subject to stringent COVID-19 prevention and control measures since early last year. For instance, all casino staff and patrons are required to wear facemasks.

Following the confirmation of the four-member Delta variant family cluster, the government carried out a mandatory three-day citywide COVID-19 nucleic acid testing (NAT) drive. All the results of the tests, which comprised the whole population, were negative.

Macau's COVID-19 tally stands at 63 - with zero deaths.
