Concerning the 13 plots leased by the government to subsidiaries of Nam Van Development Company, veteran lawyer Jorge Neto Valente, who heads the firm, said yesterday that asking for compensation would only be a last resort if the government decided to repossess the plots upon expiration of their 25-year provisional concessions at the end of the month for having been left undeveloped.

During a forum on the Land Law, hosted by the company at the World Trade Centre Macau in Nape, Neto Valente, who heads the Macau Lawyers Association (AAM), said he was not representing the association when making the remarks.

Asked by reporters whether the company would take legal action if the government decided to repossess the plots, which are located in Nam Van’s Zones C and D, Neto Valente said the company wanted to “find a solution”, adding that investors preferred to develop their projects instead of asking for compensation.
