A cabbie was arrested on Sunday for disobeying an official order, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said at a press briefing yesterday.
The local cabbie surnamed Che is in his forties.
According to Choi, the Public Security Police received a complaint from a mainland tourist on May 29 about a cabbie’s bad attitude. The tourist had taken a cab from Wynn Palace in Avenida da Nave Desportiva in Cotai to the nearby Venetian resort earlier that day. The tourist was told by the driver that the destination was nearby but the tourist insisted on taking the taxi. The cabbie drove quickly and used foul language when the tourist got out of the taxi.
Choi said the Public Security Police told Che to report to a police station on Sunday for questioning. Che’s police record showed that he was sentenced to a two-month-long driving ban in mid-April for a traffic offence, suspended for a year, and payment of a 3,000-pataca fine, otherwise he was required to submit his driving licence to the PSP Traffic Department within 10 days. However, Che did not pay the fine, nor did he submit his driver’s licence, but instead continued to work during the ban.
The case was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Che faces a charge of disobeying an official order, Choi said.
