A local fugitive involved in a fraud case last year was transferred to Macau by the Guangdong Public Security Department yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference in the area between Zhuhai’s Gongbei and Macau’s Barrier Gate checkpoints.

The 26-year-old local jobless suspect is surnamed Chan.

According to Ho, Chan was involved in the fraud case that occurred on August 28 last year when a gang used 9,949 practice banknotes and 40 genuine HK$1,000 banknotes to buy casino cash chips worth HK$10.67 million from someone in the street in Toi San district that night. Ho said that six suspects were involved in the case, adding that five suspects were arrested in Macau and Zhuhai last year and all the chips were retrieved from the kingpin’s car.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police believe that Chan was responsible for monitoring the whole process together with the local kingpin of the gang surnamed Fan. Chan left Macau on August 29 via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) checkpoint and had been hiding in Zhongshan until he was arrested in Zhuhai yesterday morning.

The spokesman said the Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
