A CTM statement said yesterday that at 5:30 p.m. it detected a service interruption in the central district caused by the disconnection of a major underground communications cable chamber due to drilling work conducted at a redevelopment construction site in Travessa do Roquete near Macau’s main square, Largo do Senado.
The statement said that as the communications cable chamber includes many large-capacity optical fibres and copper wires, the incident resulted in different levels of service interruption which affected a number of landlines, the internet and the fibre optic TV signal transmission provided for Macau Basic Television Channels Company Ltd., as well as around 1,000 customer groups including government entities and commercial and residential customers.
According to the statement, CTM has sent a technical team to undertake emergency maintenance work and rapidly arranged network diversification. The statement pointed out that following an onsite inspection by the technical team, it was discovered that the cables were seriously damaged. Since the damaged cables were located at a construction site, CTM needs to ensure people’s safety, because of which emergency repairs are carried out overnight, aiming to have the affected service resume today, according to the statement.
The statement underlined that CTM will keep the public updated about the progress of the repairs.
