A 77-year-old local doorman was arrested on Saturday for sexually abusing two boys aged seven and nine in the toilet of a shopping mall in Iao Hon district on Friday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect is surnamed Lam.
According to Cheong, one of the victims’ parents reported to the police on Friday night that a man had pulled down their child’s shorts when he went to a toilet in a shopping mall in Rua da Tribuna earlier that day. The parents told the police that when the two boys went to the toilet, a man suddenly tried to pull down the 7-year-old boy’s shorts but failed, but then he was able to pull down the 9-year-old boy’s shorts, after which he ran away. The victim told his parents about the incident and his parents decided to report the case to the police.
Cheong said PSP officers scrutinised the shopping mall’s CCTV footage and identified Lam. The officers discovered that Lam followed the two boys into the toilet at about 6 p.m. on Friday. The Public Security Police arrested Lam on Saturday afternoon near the shopping mall. Lam claimed that he had drunk a lot of alcohol earlier that day and couldn’t remember what he had done at that time. He denied he sexually abused the two boys who later identified Lam as the suspect.
Lam has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a child sex abuse charge, according to Cheong.
