Seven men from the mainland were arrested yesterday for working illegally in a cigarette factory in Avenida de Venceslau de Morais, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said yesterday at a regular press conference.

According to the spokesperson, PSP officers received a tip-off about the illegal workers and searched the factory premises in Kin Ip Industrial Building. Seven men, aged about 40 to 50, who did not have valid work permits, commonly known as blue cards, were discovered working illegally at the factory.

The spokesperson said the workers had been employed to maintain and repair the machines as well as package the cigarettes since September with a monthly salary of 10,000 to 12,000 yuan.
