The Macao Orchestra (OM) has announced changes to soloists for two upcoming concerts next month and July, while keeping programme details and venues unchanged, according to a statement by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) yesterday.

The statement did not elaborate on the changes, merely saying that they were “due to programme adjustments”.

The concerts will still be held at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium in Nape on June 13 and July 25, the statement said.

The June 13 performance has been retitled “Melco Resorts & Entertainment Presents: Leia Zhu and Macao Orchestra” and will feature violinist Leia Zhu Zhengying, winner of the 2025 Opus Klassik “Young Talent of the Year” in Germany, the statement said, adding that she will perform Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 47 by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957).

The second half of the concert, according to the statement, will include Symphony No. 4 by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860-1911), performed by soprano Vivian Yau (朱蕾雅) alongside the orchestra under the baton of OM Music Director and Principal Conductor Lio Kuokman.

Meanwhile, the July 25 concert has been renamed “Macao Orchestra 2025–26 Season Closing Concert: Chopin by Zitong Wang” as it will feature pianist Zitong Wang, a prize winner of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Poland, the statement said, highlighting that he will perform Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor Op. 11 by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).

The programme will also include The Birds and Pines of Rome, both by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936), conducted by Lio, the statement noted.

Ticket holders for the original programmes can attend the updated concerts using existing tickets or apply for refunds at Macau Ticketing Network outlets on or before August 1. Ticketing and enquiries can be found via www.macauticket.com or by calling the 24-hour hotline 2855 5555.
