A 20-year-old local man was questioned on Saturday at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for violating a driving ban, which began last Thursday and is scheduled to last until April 8 next year, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheuk Kou Chi said at a press briefing yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Lou told the police that he is a salesman.
According to Cheuk, the Public Security Police had been notified by the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre staff at about 3 a.m. on Saturday that a man surnamed Lou who was injured in a traffic accident went to the hospital for out-patient treatment.
PSP officers went to the hospital and spoke to Lou who told the police that he rode a motorcycle to pick up his girlfriend earlier that day. When he reached the junction of Rua da Doca Seca and Rua da Bacia Sul in Fai Chi Kei district he was suddenly hit by a car turning left on his right side. Luo and his girlfriend fell to the ground and they sustained injuries.
As Lou and his girlfriend thought that their injuries were not serious at that time, they did not report the case to the police. He and the driver just exchanged phone numbers before leaving the scene.
Luo told the officer that he felt pain afterwards and went to the hospital to seek medical treatment. The officers then checked Lou’s police record and discovered that he had been banned from driving for speeding for seven months which started last Thursday, Cheuk said.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Lou faces a charge of violating a driving ban, according to Cheuk.
