Vice Premier Han Zheng attended yesterday morning the inauguration ceremony of the Administrative Organizations of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the leading group for developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), said that the inauguration was a historic moment for the cooperation zone, and its construction thus had entered a new phase of full implementation and acceleration.
Hengqin is an island in the southern part of Zhuhai city in Guangdong province, adjacent to Macau's Cotai entertainment area.
The vice premier called for efforts to grow new industries to promote the moderate diversification of Macau's economy and inject new impetus into Macau's long-term development.
Han stressed the need to prioritize people's livelihoods and provide more convenient conditions for Macau residents who study, work, start a business, and live in the cooperation zone.
He also stressed openness and inclusiveness and the need to actively explore the alignment of regulations and the legal systems of Guangdong and Macau.
He urged Guangdong and Macau to strengthen cooperation and steadily improve the new mechanism of extensive consultation, joint contribution, joint management, and shared benefits.
Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and other senior officials from Macau and the mainland attended the inauguration ceremony.
After the ceremony, Han inspected the Macau Neighborhood project in Hengqin, a comprehensive livelihood project which integrates residences, education, healthcare, and community services.
