The Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) said in a statement yesterday that it launched a new version of the “Chinese-Portuguese News Learning App” this month.

According to the statement, the aim of the app’s 2.0 version is to further leverage Macau’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and to promote the exchange of information and bilingual learning between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The statement said that the new version integrates information categories on the basis of the original version, with column classification, but adding seven major sections: the Greater Bay Area, Employment, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Life, and Culture, to continue to provide users with the latest news and information and high-quality Chinese-Portuguese bilingual learning resources.

The statement noted that the first version of the app was launched in November 2020, adding that it uses the Macao Daily News as its news source to provide users with updated bilingual parallel news. The statement pointed out that since the app launch, “the response has been enthusiastic and widely acclaimed”. The statement said that besides delivering information about China and Macau to Portuguese-speaking countries, the app also provides abundant learning resources for people studying Portuguese in Macau, the mainland or elsewhere, and people studying Chinese in Portuguese-speaking countries.

The statement underlined that the “Chinese-Portuguese News Learning App” is a scientific research product developed by the Macau Polytechnic Institute, adding that the institute has been continuously contributing to the research and development of machine translation, big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and other fields.

The statement said that the application provides three download modes: the App Store, Google Play and APK installation package. The statement added that local residents, local and overseas industry professionals, teachers and students of higher institutions and interested parties are welcome to scan the QR code as shown to download the “Chinese-Portuguese News Learning App” version 2.0 to learn news and information in Chinese and Portuguese.
