A local woman was arrested at a police station last week for allegedly cheating four females out of 539,500 patacas through the purported purchase of dried seafood in May and June and by issuing a 700,000 pataca rubber cheque in July to the victims, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said at a press conference on Monday.
The 31-year-old local suspect surnamed Chan told the police that she is self-employed. Leng said Chan was arrested early this month for defrauding two local women out of 3.27 million patacas through the purported purchase of goods such as dried seafood and soup ingredients at supposedly favourable prices as well as currency exchange deals last year.
According to Leng, a woman reported to the Judiciary Police on September 3 that she and three friends had been cheated by Chan out of 539,500 patacas for the purported purchase of dried seafood at supposedly favourable prices in May and June. The victims never received the goods and after repeatedly chasing Chan for the goods she later gave them a 700,000 pataca cheque which subsequently bounced.
Leng said that Chan’s previous case is currently pending trial so she was required to report to the police on a regular basis. Chan was arrested when she reported to a police station last Thursday. Chan refused to cooperate with the police, such as to reveal the whereabouts of the ill-gotten money.
Chan was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) last Friday, facing charges of fraud and issuing a bad cheque,
