An exhibition entitled “Illusion” (假象) by local artist Wu Hin Long (胡顯龍) is being held at the UNESCO Centre of Macau.

The exhibition, which is sponsored by the Macau Foundation (FM), is part of the Macau Young Artists Programme which started in 2019, and Wu is the 4th participant in the programme.

According to a statement by the public foundation, the exhibition showcases Wu’s 16 pottery artworks done over the past four years. The exhibits are divided into three series, “stones”, “inclusion (corals)”, and “sweaters”.

Wu was born in Macau in 1987 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts Education of the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) in 2010 and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GZARTS) in 2016. Wu has been engaged in visual arts education and ceramic art creation. He is currently a member of Macau Sculpture Association and the Art for All Society. He is also a guest lecturer of Ceramic Art at the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM), according to the statement.

The statement underlines that “Illusion” means “false appearance”, or it can be said that it does not exist in real life and is imagined by people. Wu’s expression of “illusion” is between reality and falsehood, or is either self-delusion. The exhibition presents Wu’s exploration and arrangement of creative ideas over the past four years which continues the creative concept of the previous solo exhibition, allowing him to have a deeper discovery of things he was interested in as well as finding what they have in common. The works are also presented in a beautiful image which try to use the beauty to cover up everything that is not good, the statement pointed out.

The exhibition runs until next Tuesday in two halls at the UNESCO Centre of Macau at 403, Alameda Dr Carlos d’Assumpção in Nape daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Due to last week’s detection of three new COVID-19 cases, the venue has been temporarily closed. For enquiries, call 28727066 or email unesco_info@fm.org.mo.
