Macau's COVID-19 tally has risen to 71, the Novel Coroanvirus Response and Coordination Centre said in a statement tonight.
According to a statement by the centre, the 38-year-old man was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease today.
The statement said that the patient works in the security control room of the Treasure Hotel in Taipa, adding that he used the same locker room as other security personnel of the Treasure Hotel and the adjacent Golden Crown China Hotel. Both hotels, which are connected, are government-appointed COVID-19 medical observation quarantine hotels.
According to the statement, the man had tested negative for COVID-19 last Wednesday and Friday but his test result today was positive. He was inoculated against the novel coronavirus in mainland China on April 24 and June 14, the statement said, adding that the patient is asymptomatic. He has been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for isolation treatment.
The statement did not mention his nationality.
Earlier today three security guards from Nepal employed by the Golden Crown China Hotel were diagnosed with the disease. Since Saturday a total of six security staff members from the two hotels in front of the local airport have been diagnosed with COVID-19. All of them are undergoing isolation hospital treatment.
On Friday, a local resident from Turkey who was in medical observation quarantine at the Golden Crown China Hotel tested positive for COVID-19. According to the centre, he is believed to have infected the two security guards whose condition was confirmed on Saturday. While on duty at the hotel, the two security guards failed to wear their facemasks properly, the centre has said.
Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22 last year. No novel coronavirus fatalities have been reported in Macau.
