Macau's novel coronavirus tally has risen by two more cases to 77, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced tonight.

According to a statement by the centre, both cases are connected to the 75th case.

The 76th patient is a 53-year-old male non-resident construction worker from the mainland who lives in the same flat as the 75th patient. He tested negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but positive yesterday (October 8). He had been in medical observation quarantine since Monday. He was inoculated against COVID-19 with the Sinopharm vaccine on May 31. The patient came down with a fever yesterday, the statement said.

The 77th patient is a 49-year-old female non-resident domestic helper from Vietnam who is a friend of the 75th patient. She tested negative for the virus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday but positive yesterday. She had been in medical observation quarantine since Tuesday. She was inoculated against COVIVD-19 with the Sinopharm vaccine on July 1 and 30. The statement said that she is asymptomatic.

Both patients have been transferred to the Public Health Clinical Centre in Coloane for isolation treatment.

The 75th case, a 42-year-old woman from Vietnam, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.

The statement pointed out that all residents of Block 3 of The Bayview building, where the 77th patient lives, will each have to undergo a mandatory nucleic acid test starting at 8 a.m. today (October 9). The residents are barred from leaving the building until they have been tested.

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22, 2020. No novel coronavirus fatalities have been reported.

The government carried out the city's third mandatory mass nucleic acid testing (NAT) drive this week. All the results were negative.
