A man was arrested last week for damaging a car at the end of last month because he was in a bad mood, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Saturday.

The suspect is a local man in his thirties.

According to the statement, a resident reported to the Public Security Police on October 2 that his or her car had been damaged.

The police did not reveal the victim’s gender.

The victim had parked the car in Rua de Nam Keng in Taipa on September 30 and returned to the car on October 2 in order to drive to the waterfront sitting-out area of Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano. When the victim got back to the car, he or she discovered scratches on the vehicle’s front and rear doors. Suspecting that someone had damaged them deliberately, the victim reported the case to the police.

The statement said that the Public Security Police scrutinised CCTV footage of the nearby areas and identified the suspect who was arrested later that day in a building in Rua de Coimbra in Taipa. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime, claiming that when walking along Rua de Nam Keng on that day he saw a car that looked like his mother-in-law’s. The suspect told the police that he was in a bad mood as he is going through a divorce so in a moment of anger, scratched the car doors with a coin.

The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of causing property damage, according to the statement.
