Macau's weather station lowered Typhoon Signal No. 8 to Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 5:30 p.m. today, after Typhoon "Kompasu" had made landfall in Hainan province at 4 p.m.
However, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) still forecast flooding of below 0.50 metre in the city's low-lying areas between 9 p.m. today and 4 a.m. tomorrow.
Signal No. 8 had been hoisted at 10:30 p.m. yesterday. It remained hoisted for 19 hours. The signal was hoisted twice within less than a week - last Saturday for Severe Tropical Cyclone "Lionrock" and yesterday for Typhoon "Kompasu". Both storms spared Macau.
The Civil Protection Operations Centre recorded nine minor incidents during the hoisting of Signal No. 8.
Public bus transport was to be resumed gradually. The city's four emergency shelters for those who sought shelter from the typhoon were closed at 5:30 p.m. A total of 16 flights were delayed by the typhoon, Macau's Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) announced.
Target groups' COVID-19 tests, which were suspended during the typhoon, recommenced at 7:30 today.
In Hong Kong, Strong Wind Signal No. 3 took effect at 4:40 p.m., replacing Typhoon Signal No. 8 that had been in force for almost 24 hours as the storm moved farther away from Hong Kong towards Hainan.
