A local woman was confirmed dead after “falling” from a building in Rua de Malaca on Friday morning, according to a statement from Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong on Friday.

According to the statement, the Judiciary Police (PJ) were notified at about 8 a.m. by a nurse from the Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre on Friday morning that the body of a 42-year-old woman was found lying on a building’s 2nd floor podium in Rua de Malaca in Nape earlier that morning. The public hospital’s doctors were unable to save her life, the statement said.

PJ officers rushed to the scene to investigate. They found a stool on the building’s rooftop, assuming that the victim used the stool to climb over the wall. A suicide note was found on the rooftop, the statement said, which said that the woman had “fallen” from the rooftop. The building’s doorman told PJ officers that a resident of the building had told him at 7.30 a.m. that the body of a woman was lying on the podium so he immediately reported the case to the Public Security Police.

After a preliminary examination of the body, the deceased sustained a spinal fracture and open fractures of both feet and ankles which were caused by falling from a height, the statement said, adding that the cause of death would be confirmed after a forensic examination.

The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation into the case, according to the statement, which did not say whether the victim lived in the building, nor did it reveal the contents of the suicide note.
